Edmund John Briles, 86, passed away peacefully at his family home on Big Ranch Road on Jan. 21, 2003. He was born at Davis Creek, Modoc County, on Oct. 21, 1916. He was the son of Chester and Millicent Briles and grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Boudier, early pioneers of Napa County.
He attended local schools, graduating from Napa High with the class of 1937. They recently celebrated their 65th class reunion. He then went on to Sacramento State. To his classmates, he was called "Noonie." He was with the Army Engineers at Pearl Harbor, returning to Napa in 1946 to build his own business, Napa Valley Locker Service. He was in business with his wife for 38 years, retiring in 1971.
Ed loved to fish and deer hunt with his two sons. Golf was very special, spending time with his good buddies. He belonged to Native Sons over 50 years, Sirs Branch 65 and was a old timer of Pope Valley Deer Club. He was a former member of Napa Valley Horsemen.
He will truly be missed by his wife of 56 years, Ruth; and sons Ernie of Victor, Mont., and Thomas and his wife, Pam, of Vacaville. He was a loving grandfather to Angela Briles, Robert Panack and Jennifer Phipps, all of Napa. The joys of his life were his great-grandsons, Travis, Kyle, Ryan and Max. He leaves many nieces and nephews, as well as golfing buddies and good friends.
