William Obed CHILDRESS
(3 Apr 1852 - Dec 1880)
In a family tree file received from Rick Ribble in early 1999, a marriage was shown between Alice Jane Snow and "Billy" Childress. This more or less conforms to a note I received from Lucille Vann Cohen wherein she states that this relationship existed.
Further to the above, I received a copy of a letter written January 3, 1976 by Alice Jane Snow Childress' granddaughter, whose given name was "Hazel." In the letter about her ancestry, Hazel provides written documentation concerning this marriage of her grandparents. In the letter, Hazel notes that her grandfather, "William Obed Childress was born April 3, 1852 and was killed when thrown from horseback in December, 1880 before Mother was born in February, 1881."
CONFUSION ON PARENTS
I received a note from Linda Gardner in 1999 wherein she enclosed some family trees that she, or her relatives, had completed. In the family notes, this William Obed Childress was shown as the son of William Childress, born June 16, 1816.
