Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Catholic Church for Wilfred J. Welle, 84, who died Saturday at his home. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call from 3:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Patton-Schad Funeral Home, Melrose. The St. Joseph's Sodality, the Poor Souls and the Holy Rosary Society will pray at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home in Melrose followed by parish prayers at 8 p.m.
Wilfred Welle was born in Grove Township, Stearns County, to Joseph and Anna (Schoenberg) Welle. He married Ledvina Berns on Oct. 25, 1938, at St. John's Catholic Church, Meire Grove. The couple farmed in Getty Township, Stearns County, until retiring in 1978 and moving to Meire Grove. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, the Poor Souls Society, the Holy Rosary Society and the St. Joseph's Sodality.
Survivors include his daughters and sons, Ken of Meire Grove, Allan of Avon, Tom and Mark of Sauk Centre, Diane Moritz of Waite Park, Roger of Greenwald, Grace Carlson of Albany and David of Rockville; sister, Anna Marie Imdieke of Meire Grove; 35 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife on April 3, 1999; son, William; brothers and sisters, Joseph, Adelbert, Martin, Leo, Henry, Anthony, Erwin, Loretta, Elizabeth Ellering, Mary Rieland and Catherine Singsank.
