Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Friday, May 5 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose for Alcuin Stroeing who died at Pine Haven Care Center in Melrose. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 8 to 11 a.m. Friday at Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Parish prayers will be at 7 p.m. followed by Sts. Elizabeth and Bernard Council at 8 p.m. Thursday evening.
Alcuin Stroeing was born April 14, 1914 in Lastrup, Minnesota to Henry and Anna (Nathe) Stroeing. He was united in marriage to Merena "Joie" Welle on September 16, 1946 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Melrose. Alcuin worked at the west Kraft Plant, in Melrose, until retiring in 1974. In his retirement, he enjoyed restoring and driving his 1930 Ford Model A, splitting wood, playing cards, gambling, telling a humorous story, and, of course, fishing with his buddies. He was a big fan of the Minnesota Twins, and a faithful fan of "The Wheel". Alcuin was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sts. Elizabeth and Bernard Council, and the St. Louis Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree Knights of Paynesville.
Survivors include his children, Daniel Stroeing (Mary) of Seattle, WA, Mary Ann Biskey (Gary) of Elk River, Lou Ann Jacobson (John) of Minneapolis, and Quincy Stroeing of Minneapolis; three grandchildren, Nicole Popptiz, Jason and Matt Biskey, and one great granddaughter, Taylor Popptiz; sisters-in-law, Lucille Stroeing, Donna Stroeing and Loretta (Welle) Rieland; 11 nieces and nephews of the Stroeing family and 41 nieces and nephews of the Welle family.
Alcuin was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Stroeing in 1969 and Anna Nathe Stroeing in 1970; wife, Joie on May 18, 1997; infant daughter Mary Kay Stroeing on October 14, 1947 and son, Alcuin C. "Junior" Stroeing on March 11, 1978; his four younger brothers, Lambert, Odillo "Del", Leander "Lee" and Vernon F. Stroeing.
