Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 22, 2004 at Church of Our Lady in Manannah for Kathleen E. Wuertz, age 84, who died Monday at Paynesville Area Health Care System. Rev. Francis Garvey will officiate and burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday and one hour prior to the services Thursday at the church in Manannah. Daughters of Isabella will pray at 6:30 p.m., followed by parish prayers at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the church in Manannah. Arrangements were made with Dingmann's Eden Valley Funeral Home.
Kathleen was born on July 8, 1919 in Manannah Township, Minnesota to Dennis and Susan (Schmidt) Garvey. She was married to Anton (Tony) Wuertz on October 27, 1943, at Church of Our Lady, Manannah. The couple made their life together in the Lake Henry area from 1948 thru 2000 when Kathleen moved back to Manannah to reside with her brother, Reverend Francis Garvey until she was called to Heaven on Monday, January 19, 2004.
Kathleen devoted 31 years of her life as an elementary school teacher. Several of these years were spent teaching country school in the Lake Henry area as well as substitute teaching in later years for neighboring school districts. She was also very active in her church organizations and loved spending her time baking, quilting, crocheting and doing other crafts. Kathleen was a member of Church of Our Lady, Daughters of Isabella, CCW, Catholic Aid Association, and St. Margaret's Rosary Society of Lake Henry.
Survivors include her sons, James and his wife, Mary Wuertz of Eden Valley and Michael Wuertz of Eden Valley; her brother, Reverend Francis Garvey of Eden Valley; her sister, Anna Marie and her husband, Earl Howard of Minneapolis; grandchildren, Karen Wuertz, Susan (Steve) Gillman, and Jesse Wuertz and great granddaughter, Sarah Gillman.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Tony; sister, Helen; and brothers, Joseph, Dennis and Michael.
