Dorothy A. Welle, age 91 of Melrose, died on Sunday, April 13, 2008, at the Melrose Area Hospital in Melrose. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m., Thursday, April 17, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose with Rev. Scott Wittkop officiating. Interment was held in the parish cemetery.
Dorothy Welle was born May 7, 1916, in New Munich, to Sebastian and Mary (Roos) Janson. She was united in marriage to Hubert John Welle on Sept. 13, 1941, in Los Angeles, Calif. She was a graduate of Melrose High School and worked at the Melrose Area Hospital in admitting for 20 years. Dorothy was fiercely independent and maintained that characteristic up until her passing. She was a member at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose, Christian Mothers and the Daughters of Isabella. In her younger years, Dorothy enjoyed golfing and bowling. Later in life, she loved to play cards, especially bridge and 500.
Survivors include her children, Kenneth Welle of St. Paul, Alan (Laura) Welle of Willmar, Janet (Tom Covert) Welle of Seattle, Wash., and Karen Welle of St. Paul; six grandchildren; and sisters-in-law, Pauline (Dick) Janson and Eleanor (Bill) Welle.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Hubert Welle on July 16, 1982; and six brothers and two sisters. Serving as casket bearers were Nicolas Phillips, Lisa Phillips, Benjamin Welle and Adam Welle. Cross bearer was Tom Janson and scripture bearer was Kathy Zachmann. Arrangements were made with Patton-Schad Funeral & Cremation Services of Melrose.
