Feb 28, 1999 Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Andrew's Catholic Church for Stanley J. Athmann, 69, who died Sunday at St. Cloud Hospital. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call after 3:30 p.m. today and from 8 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at Patton-Schad Funeral Home. Knights of Columbus, Melrose Council, will pray at 7 tonight at the funeral home in Melrose followed by Lake Henry American Legion Post 612 at 7:30 and parish prayers at 8.
Stanley Athmann was born in Spring Hill to Aloys and Nellie (Winter) Athmann. He married Victoria Welle on April 14, 1953, in St. Michael's Catholic Church, Spring Hill. The couple lived in Spring Hill and operated Stan's Bar for many years.
He was in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers from 1954-1956. He worked for Megarry Brothers road crew for several years. He also worked on the Soo Line Railroad for a number of years.He was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church, St. Michael's Society and Knights of Columbus Third and Fourth Degrees. He was a past member of Melrose Lions Club; charter member of the Greenwald Lions Club; past member and president of the Greenwald Recreation Club and Green Grove Rod and Gun Club; past member of Lake Henry Sportman's Club, Hindenberg Riders Snowmobile Club and Lake Henry American Legion Post 612.
Survivors include his wife; father of Melrose; daughter and sons, Diane Haskamp of Meire Grove, Dale of St. Cloud, and Pete of Sauk Rapids; brothers and sisters, Joseph, Gene and Alice of Spring Hill, Tony of Sauk Centre, Marcy Welle of Melrose, Pat Kruzel of Richmond, and Josephine Ertl of Eden Valley; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
