A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 7, at St. Louis Catholic Church in Paynesville with Reverend Richard Leisen officiating. Burial took place in the St. Louis Parish Cemetery in Paynesville.
Shirley was born June 2, 1936 in Sauk Centre to Albin and Vera (Neal) Eckberg. She married Clarence Sand on May 6, 1954. She was a nurse's aid at the Paynesville Hospital for over 20 years. She also worked as a physical therapy assistant at the Sauk Centre Hospital for over 10 years. Shirley will be remembered for the14 years of caregiving she provided Clarence prior to his death in 2002. She will also be remembered for her love of baking, embroidering and most of all her love of shopping. She was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church in Paynesville.
Shirley is survived by her daughters Susan (Scott) Mertesdorf of Belgrade, Sandra (Dennis) Stanger of St. Martin and Shelly (Richard) Lecher of Belgrade; four grandchildren Trisha Stanger, Michael Sand and Zachery and Adam Lecher and sister Betty Schaeffer of Sauk Centre.
Preceding her in death are her parents; husband; son Timothy (1968); brother Robert Eckberg and sister Jane Eckberg.
