Anthony Poepping
Anthony "Tony" Poepping, age 93 of Melrose, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010, at the Pine Haven Nursing Home in Melrose. The Mass of Christian Burial was 11 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 19, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Munich. Burial followed in the parish cemetery.
Tony Poepping was born April 5, 1917, in New Munich to Gerhard and Philomine (Vornbrock) Poepping. He married Rose Sand on Oct. 17, 1939, in New Munich. Tony farmed for 36 years before he retired. After retiring from the farm, he worked at Unger Furniture for two years and Worms Ready Mix for over 17 years. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Munich, the Catholic Order of Foresters and the St. Joseph's Society.
Tony is survived by his wife, Rose, Melrose; his daughters; Irene (Darrell) Eiden, Coon Rapids; Marlene "Moe" Otte, Sauk Centre; Bernice (Allen) Nathe, Spring Hill and Toni (John) Koopmeiners, Calif. He is also survived by his brother, Melvin (Erma) Poepping, New Munich, 19 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sisters, Theodore Poepping, Alvina Mayers, Sylvester Poepping and Juletta Ostendorf-Piekarski; and son-in-law, Elmer Otte. Arrangements were made with Miller-Carlin Funeral Home.
