Services will be noon Wednesday at Seven Dolors Catholic Church for Alois Wensmann, 91, who died Sunday at Mother of Mercy Nursing Home. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 9 tonight and after 10 a.m. Wednesday at Miller-Carlin-Brenny Funeral Home, Albany. Seven Dolors parish prayers will be at 8 tonight at the funeral home in Albany, followed by St. Joseph's Catholic Aid Society and New Munich Foresters at 8:30.
Alois Wensmann was born in Freeport to Bernard and Elizabeth (Hoppe) Wensmann. He married Elizabeth Rademacher on Oct. 20, 1936, in Melrose. The couple farmed south of Freeport until 1972, when he retired. In the early 1970s, he worked for Sand's Construction, and later worked for Spanier Construction. In the early 1980s, he worked for Green Thumb. He received the outstanding senior citizen award from Minnesota Gov. Arne Carlson. He spent the past 12 winters in Arizona. He was a member of Seven Dolors Catholic Church, St. Joseph's Catholic Aid Society, New Munich Foresters, Seven Dolors Church Choir and Albany Senior Citizens.
Survivors include his children, Lawrence of St. Joseph, Ronald of Richmond, Mike of Cold Spring, LuAnn Schaefer of Paynesville, Kathy Spanier of Mesa, Ariz., Irene Cornelius of Detroit Lakes, Marilyn Juen of Hayward, Wis., and Sue Shay of Albany; brother, Paul of Sauk Rapids; and 22 grandchildren.
He also leaves behind his long-time special friend, Dorothy Haberman of Slayton.
He was preceded in death by his wife in September of 1985; infant son, Ervin; and sisters, Minne Job and Clara Fitzgerald.
