Raymond J. Waldorf

Raymond John Waldorf, 81, died on July 19, 2004 at his home. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on July 22, 2004 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Belle River, Minn. Rev. LeRoy Scheierl and Rev. Julian Schmiesing officiated. Interment was in St. Nicholas Church Cemetery.

Ray was born on Dec. 31, 1922 in Belgrade, Minn., the son of John and Emma (Wuertz) Waldorf. He attended country schools and began working on the family farm at a young age. In 1940 the family moved to another farm near Sauk Centre. On April 17, 1951 Ray was united in marriage to Lucille Schmiesing at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Meire Grove, Minn. The couple farmed in Swanville, Westport and in 1959 moved to Belle River where the couple farmed until 1966. In 1969 they moved into Carlos. After leaving farming Ray worked as a school bus driver and also at the Carlos Locker. In 1992 he retired from bus driving. Ray enjoyed go-kart racing, stock car racing, fishing, gardening, playing cards and visiting with his family and friends.

Ray is survived by his wife, Lucille of Carlos; children: Dwayne (Joyce) of Carlos; Elaine (Dave) Thoennes of Alexandria; Marlene (Paul) Bitzan of Brandon; Judy (Bill) Kluver of Alexandria; Janice (Ray) Doebber of Alexandria; and Richard Waldorf of Garfield; grandchildren: Rick Thoennes, Jenny Thoennes, Joshua Waldorf, Patrick Waldorf, Zachary Waldorf, Paul Bitzan Jr, Jason Bitzan, Ryan Bitzan, Aaron Bitzan, Dustin Bitzan, Jesse Kluver, Cody Kluver, Missy Morisette; and Michael Doebber great-grandchildren: Reise Waldorf and Riley Bitzan; brothers: Eugene (Alvina) of Osakis; Bert (Lucille) of Sauk Centre; Don (Kay) of St. Cloud; sister, Dorothy (Phil) of St. Cloud; sister-in-law, Delores Waldorf of Albany and many nieces and nephews.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Roman Waldorf; and sister, Mathilda Beuning.
Musicians included Janice Doebber and the St. Nicholas Choir. Cross bearer was Ryan Bitzan, gift bearers were Jenny Thoennes and Missy Morisette. The reader was Jesse Kluver. Pallbearers were Ray's grandsons. Honorary pallbearers were Bill Zimmel, Roy Grundei, Melvin Grundei, Phillip Schlosser, David Schlosser, Marvin Steidl, Eugene Hauer and Dennis Drexler. Arrangements were made with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria, Minn.
