Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Martin Catholic Church, for George J. Mehr, 84, who died Sunday at his residence. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Tuesday at St. Martin Parish Center. The St. Joseph Society and the St. Benedict Society will pray the rosary at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at the parish center in St. Martin followed by parish prayers at 8. The Richmond Catholic Order of Foresters, Albany Third Degree Knights of Columbus Fr. Pierz Council and the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus Queen of Peace Council, Sauk Rapids, will pray the rosary at 9.
George Mehr was born in St. Martin to John and Mary (Welle) Mehr. He married Martha Dingmann on Jan. 26, 1942, in St. Catherine Catholic Church, Farming. The couple farmed about four miles northwest of St. Martin for 33 years, and then moved to St. Martin in 1975. He sold insurance for the Albany Mutual Insurance Co. He was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church, where he was a trustee; the St. Martin Catholic Church Choir; the St. Joseph and St. Benedict Men's Society; the Catholic Order of Foresters of Richmond; the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus Queen of Peace Council; the Third Degree Knights of Columbus Fr. Pierz Council; and the Albany Knights of Columbus Choir. He also was on the board of directors for the St. Martin National Bank.
Survivors include his wife; and children, Jerry of St. Stephen, Fred of Cold Spring, and Joe of St. Martin; 16 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; and brothers and sister, Hubert of Mankato, Isadore 'Izzy'of Pierz, and Marie Worms of Melrose.
He was preceded in death by his brothers and sister, the Rev. Henry, OSC; the Rev. Al, OSC; the Rev. Chris, OSC; Joe, John, Elizabeth Doll and an infant sister, Mary. Memorials are preferred.
