Melrose - Funeral services will be at 12:30 pm Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, New Munich, for Claude Schwieters, 91, who died Friday at Pine Villa Nursing Home. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call after 3:30 pm Monday at Schad Funeral Home. Parish prayers will be 8 pm at the funeral home.
Claude Schwieters was born July 22, 1900 in New Munich to Ferdinand and Mary (Niehoff) Schwieters. He married Elizabeth Zierden on Nov 17, 1931 in New Munich. They farmed near New Munich until moving in 1940 to St. Joseph, where he farmed and did masonry contracting. He moved to New Munich in 1982. He moved to Pine VIlla Nursing Home in 1985. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, New Munich.
Survivors include his sons and daughters, Clarence, Rochester; Jerry, Sartell; Mrs. Jerome (Mary Ann) Sauerer, Winona; and Mrs. Lawrence (Marlene) Herickhoff and Arnold, St. Paul; brother, Al, Grand Forks, ND; sisters, Alma Wiener, Sauk Centre; Eleanor Altman, St. Paul; Theresa Ehlert and Loretta Athmann, Freeport; and Mrs. Dick (Pauline) Janson, New Munich; 18 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife on Aug 23, 1988; brothers: Casper, Conrad and Raymond; sisters: Mayme Stalberger and Ida Timmer; and one grandchild. Pallbearers will be Mike, David, John and Paul Schwieters, Brian Herickhoff and Tom Sauerer.
