Vincent Sultenfuss
(February 20, 1926 - May 20, 2014)
Sultenfuss, Vincent Joseph, Sr. of Tampa passed away at the age of 88 on Wednesday, May 20, 2014 in his home.
Vincent was born to the late William I. and Marie Ann Sultenfuss on February 20, 1926 in Tampa where he remained as a lifelong resident. Vincent attended Sacred Heart Academy continuing onto Jesuit High school. Graduating with the class of 1945, Vincent pursued his passion for football and made many lifelong friends. Vincent served in World War II as a Pharmacist’s Mate, Third Class of the United States Navy from 1945-46. After serving his country honorably, he came home to attend the University of Florida and the University of Tampa, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, class of 1951. As a general contractor, Vincent started his own business building homes and apartments. On November 9, 1952, Vincent married the love of his life, Joan Lee. Together they raised their four boys and four girls in the home Vincent built for them on the weekends. Vincent considered his family to be his greatest achievement in life.
If you ever saw Vincent, then you probably saw him out at one of his favorite, routine lunch spots sharing a laugh with his children and grandchildren. Davis Islands was his home away from home, where he was able to create many beautiful memories. If you needed to find Vincent, you just drove around the island until you spotted “Old Brown”. Vincent also had a passion for land and auctions. And if you ever had the pleasure of getting “trapped” in “Old Brown”, you most definitely ended up in another county looking at endless tracts of land and orange groves. And meeting all of his buddies he stopped to visit along the way. Rarely did a trip end before the sun went down.
Vincent Sultenfuss was a man known for his integrity, sense of humor, generosity, and unwavering family values. His handshake was his word. All who encountered him felt Vincent’s generosity. If you mentioned liking something, it would show up magically the next day. He was able to touch many lives and did it without ever expecting acknowledgement. It brought him joy to see others happy. Above all else, his love and belief in his family was present in everything he did. He instilled these virtues in his children and grandchildren to continue his legacy for generations to follow.
Vincent was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla and the Knights of Columbus. Vincent was preceded in death by; his loving wife, Joan Lee Sultenfuss, parents, William I. and Marie Ann Sultenfuss, brothers, William J. Sultenfuss and Gerald Sultenfuss, and sisters, Mary Nydegger and Geneviewe Quigley.
Vincent is survived by; a brother, John H. Sultenfuss (Agnes), his eight children: Joan Marie (Jo-rie) Robin (Tracy), Vincent J. Sultenfuss, Jr. (Janie), Lamarcus L.
