The Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of Earl J. Buttweiler, age 78 of St. Cloud, will be 10:30 AM Tuesday, February 7 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in St. Cloud. Father Tim Wenzel and Monsignor Daniel Taufen will officiate, burial will be in Assumption cemetery. Earl died Thursday at the St. Cloud Hospital. There will be a visitation from 4-8:00 PM Monday evening at the Miller-Carlin Funeral Home in St. Cloud, and again after 9:00 AM Tuesday morning at the church. St. Anthony parish prayers at will be at 6:00 PM followed by St. Cloud Eagles Aerie 622 at 6:30 Monday evening at the funeral home in St. Cloud.
Earl Buttweiler was born March 10, 1927 in Adrian, MN to Leo and Helen (Kuffel) Buttweiler. The family operated creameries in several towns before settling in Rockville. Earl graduated from St. Cloud Technical High School and then joined the U.S. Navy during WWII. He served his country in the Pacific Theater and in Okinawa during the war. He returned to central Minnesota after the war and on June 18, 1955, he married LeVonne Hommerding in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sauk Rapids. In August of 1956, Earl started "Earl's Welding" and in 1959, he changed the name of his company to "St. Cloud Industrial Supply" which included Earl's Welding, North Central Truck Equipment, North Central Bluebird Bus Company and Kris Engineer-ing. In 1973, he sold his interest in all of his companies except Kris Engineer-ing, which supplies industrial road construction supplies. He continued to operate this company with his children, until his death. Earl was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in St. Cloud, the St. Cloud Knights of Columbus Bishop Marty Council, the St. Cloud Eagles Aerie 622, the Waite Park American Legion Post 428, the St. Cloud VFW club 428 and the Nathan B's Coffee Group.
Earl is survived by his children, John (Michele) Buttweiler, St. Cloud, Kurt (Tammy) Buttweiler, St. Cloud; Terisa (Daniel) Doll, Rockville; sisters, Gisella Castiglioni, Butte, MT; Mary Taufen, St. Cloud, and brother, Pat (Renee) Buttweiler, St. Cloud. Earl is also survived by grand-children, Robby, Brittney, Sam & Jacob Buttweiler; Kaylie & Tyler Doll and special friend, Cecilia Gross.
Earl is preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Krista Buttweiler, in 1970, his wife, LeVonne in 1997 and his sister, Alma Baum. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Poor Clares Monastery and the Arthritis Foundation.
