Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport for Amandus Rolfes. His son, Rev. Robert Rolfes, will officiate. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery.
Amandus Anton Rolfes, son of Henry and Wilhemena Rolfes, was born on July 20, 1913, at Freeport, Minnesota. He married Rose Rademacher on October 1, 1935, at Sacred Heart Church, Freeport, MN. She died on July 14, 1938. He married Elizabeth Silbernick on April 15, 1947, at St. Rose of Lima Church, St. Rosa. He farmed in Millwood Township until 1957 when he purchased the Pioneer Inn in Freeport, which he owned and operated until he retired in 1975.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; three sons, Walter (Lucy) Rolfes, Chippewa Falls, WI, Rev. Robert Rolfes, St. Augusta, MN, and Charles (Andrea) Rolfes, Eden Prairie; one sister, Alice Silbernick, Cold Spring; three brothers, Harvey (Sally) Rolfes, Minneapolis, Alcuin Rolfes, Annandale, and Anthony (Rosemary) Rolfes, Merrifield; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rose; son, Melvin; the following brothers and sisters, Delores Schwartz, Marie Rolfes, Marcella Westbrock, Gerald Rolfes, Allen Rolfes and LaVerne Roering.
He was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, Catholic Aid Association (50 year member), Knights of Columbus Council #3628 of Albany and Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Freeport. He was a former member of the Freeport Lions Club where he received the Melvin Jones Award for dedicated Humanitarian Service, the Freeport Chamber of Commerce, the Freeport Sportsman's Club, and the Freeport Planning Commission. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Freeport State Bank for many years. He was a trustee of Sacred Heart Church, Freeport, and a former member of the parish council. Pallbearers will be Michael, Craig, Brent, Dale, Gary and Brandon Rolfes. Cross bearer will be Sara Rolfes with Scripture Bearer, Janell Rolfes. Lectors will be Mary Jo Rolfes-Lo and Karla Neely.
