Frederick J. Hinnenkamp, age 88 of Long Prairie, passed away Thursday, Feb. 25, 2010, at St. Michael's Hospital in Sauk Centre. Mass of Christian Burial was Tuesday, March 2, 1 p.m., at St. Mary of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Long Prairie. The Rev. Richard Walz officiated and burial was at St. Mary's Cemetery in Long Prairie.
Frederick was born April 21, 1921, in Melrose, to Frank and Elizabeth (Schmiesing) Hinnenkamp. He grew up on the family farm and attended school near Melrose. Frederick was united in marriage to Bernadine Jacobs on Sept. 11, 1945, in Melrose. The couple farmed near West Union until 1954, when they moved to Little Sauk, where they owned and operated Freddie's Service Station until they sold the business in 1977. Frederick then went to work for Cenex in Sauk Centre and later did small engine and mechanic work. He enjoyed John Deere tractors, hunting and small engine repair.
Frederick is survived by his children, Mary Hinnenkamp of Garretson, S.D., Lloyd (Janet) Hinnenkamp of Long Prairie, Wayne Hinnenkamp of Alexandria and Allen Hinnenkamp of Long Prairie; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; sisters and brother, Leona Blenker, Lydia Beuning, Ernest (Marcella) Hinnenkamp, Jeanette Zehrer all of Melrose, Mary Ann Tooley of Prineville, Ore., and Ida Pung of Alamo, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bernadine; son, Frank Hinnenkamp and daughter, Joan Hetland; brothers, Hubert, James and Sylvester; sisters, Irene Athmann and Lillian Hinnenkamp. Casket bearers were Tom Hinnenkamp, Ken Hinnenkamp, Mike Hinnenkamp, Iven Blenker, Dave Beuning and Dale Hinnenkamp.
