Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 16, 2009 at St. Anthonys Catholic Church in St. Cloud for Clarence H. Stang, age 70, of St. Cloud. Clarence passed away at the St. Cloud Hospital on January 12, 2009. Reverend Thomas Knoblach and Reverend Greg Lieser will concelebrate. Entombment will be in Assumption Mausoleum in St. Cloud. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday and after 9:30 a.m. on Friday at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud. Parish Prayers will be held at 5:00 p.m followed by the Knights of Columbus at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
Clarence was born March 30, 1938 in St. Martin, MN to John and Helena (Schlangen) Stang. He married Ruth G. Nett on June 18, 1960 at St. Martin Catholic Church in St. Martin. Clarence worked in home construction most of his life and he was also a skilled cabinetmaker. He liked working with his hands, camping, and farm work. Clarences greatest joy in life was spending time with his family. Clarence was a long-time member of St. Anthonys Parish, Knights of Columbus Council #5548, Catholic Aid Association, Eagles Aerie #622, a former member of the St. Anthony Do-Dads, involved in the Boy Scouts with his sons, and enjoyed volunteering at the Whitney Senior Center after his retirement.
Clarence is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Ruth; children, John (Susan) of St. Cloud, Sharon (Brian) Broadwell, of Savage, Jeffrey (Michele) of Little Falls, Sandra (Michael) Knudson of West St. Paul; grandchildren, Katie, Kelsey, Abby Broadwell, Zachary Dubay, Noah Stang, John and Rey Knudson; brother and sisters, Cora Obermiller, Ceil Harris, and Arnold Stang.
Preceding him in death were his parents; sisters and brother, Martha Hieserich, Sr. Colette, OSB, Sr. Brigetta, OSB, Herbert Stang, and Theresa Schaefer. Clarence will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
