Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2009 at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud for Mathew Mike Zirbes Jr., age 82 of Garrison formerly of St. Cloud. Mike passed away on January 14, 2009 at the Onamia Hospital in Onamia. Reverend Greg Lieser will officiate. Entombment will be in Assumption Cemetery in St. Cloud. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday and after 9:00 a.m. on Saturday at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud.
Mike was born on October 23, 1926 in Paynesville, MN to Mathew and Mary (Shoultz) Zirbes. He married Evelyn Hippler on April 28, 1945, in St. Cloud. He was employed by the City of St. Cloud for 35 years. Prior to his death he lived with his daughter and her family in the Northwoods. With them he enjoyed the beauty of nature and watching the activities of their family. Time spent with him reminiscing the good old days and the stories of his favorite History Channel events will be fondly remembered.
Mike is survived by his son, Jerry (Carol) Zirbes of St. Cloud and daughter, Brenda (Marvin) Oachs of Garrison; grandchildren, Deb DeLeo, Brian Zirbes, Steve Zirbes, Jennifer Scheil, and Mandy Schmitz; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Lucille Bares, Dorann Abraham, Rose Keeley; and brother, Eugene Zirbes.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Evelyn on August 2, 2001; son, William Bill on March 25, 2005; and brother, Lloyd.
