Clarence A. "Tony" Botz, age 89 of Sauk Centre, died Tuesday, June 24, 2008, at the Dept. of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in St. Cloud. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Friday, June 27, at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Sauk Centre with Rev. Todd Schneider officiating. Military honors were provided by the Sauk Centre United Veterans Honor Guard with interment following in Greenwood Cemetery.
Tony was born June 9, 1919, in Sauk Centre to Frederick and Rose (Bromenshenkel) Botz. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. On July 2, 1946, he married Deloris McGee. Deloris preceded him in death on Dec. 31, 1971. He married Leona (Kuefler) Carpenter on Oct. 12, 1973, in St. Louis Park and the couple resided in Hopkins. He had been employed by Barten Construction in Osseo for 15 years and then by Harddrives until 1980. Upon retirement, they moved to Spirit Lake, near Aitkin. They returned to Sauk Centre in 2001. Leona preceded him in death on Feb. 16, 2008. He was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church, Paul F. Donart VFW Post 2853, American Legion Post 67, Disabled American Veterans and the Moose Lodge in Aitkin.
Survivors include three step-children, Karen (George) Hnasko of Brown Deer, Wis., Dave (Joyce) Carpenter of Golden Valley and Gary (Nancy) Carpenter of East Bethel; nine step-grandchildren; eleven step-great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, David (Louise) Botz of West Palm Beach, Fla., Alma Sanders and Sr. Lucille Botz, both of St. Paul, Dorothy Ahrens of Sauk Centre, Evelyn Hitt of Fridley, Muriel Vonada of Menahga and Robert (Elaine) Botz of Sauk Centre; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Deloris and Leona; brothers, Paul, Pete, Art and Edwin Botz. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Tree of Life at St. Michael's Nursing Home and the Alzheimer's Association. Arrangements were made with Patton-Schad Funeral & Cremation Services of Sauk Centre.
