Jeanette (Uphus) Baltes died on Friday, Oct. 17, 2003 at the Bethany Home. Mass of Christian Burial was on Monday, Oct. 20, 2003 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Al Ludwig officiating. Internment was at St. Mary's Cemetery.
Jeanette was born in Greenwald, Minn., on June 18, 1931, the daughter of John and Mary (Brus) Uphus. She attended school in Greenwald. On Set. 13, 1949 Jeanette was united in marriage to LaVerne Baltes. The Baltes family lived in St. Paul and in 1969 Jeanette moved to Alexandria. She loved to play cards, shake dice, and play bingo despite her disability with Parkinsons Disease, which she had for 40 years. Jeanette displayed a great sense of humor, enjoyed by family, friends and caregivers. She had a strong spiritual faith that carried her through her difficult times.
She is survived by her children: Mrs. Richard (Diane) Winter of Alexandria, Mrs. Gary (Linda) Klobes of Alexandria, Mrs. Jim (Mary Kay) Leukam of Meire Grove, John Baltes of Alexandria, Mrs. Herb (Carol) Hoppe of Osakis, Mrs. Mike (Barb) Mikkelson of Alexandria; 13 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; brothers, Edward Uphus of Belgrade, Frances Uphus of Greenwald, Ken Loxtercamp of Cologne; and sister, Mrs. Dillo (Irene) Leukam of Sauk Centre.
She was preceded in death by her husband, LaVerne; son-in-law, Richard Winter; parents, four brothers and four sisters. Honorary pallbears were Donna Sand, Charlene Ohmann, Kitty Gruber, Johanna Heining, Marion Bonfig, Pat Seanger, and Ivy Mikkelson. Pallbearers were Daniel Mikkelson, Peter Uphus, Keyes Burgess, Kevin Schulzetenberg, Robert Baltes and Tom Seanger. Arrangements were made with Petermeier's Alexandria Funeral Care and Cremation Service.
