Erwin "Erv" Baltes
Erwin, "Erv" Baltes, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday Jan. 7, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alexandria with the Reverend Tim Baltes and Reverend Al Ludwig co-officiating. Entombment was in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
Erwin "Erv" Baltes was born in Aug. 27, 1917, in Meire Grove, Minn., the son of George and Josephine (Meyer) Baltes the oldest of nine children. Erv married Monica Buerman on Aug. 21, 1961, in Farming, Minn. Erv and Monica moved to Alexandria in 1961 where Erv started the Baltes Pontiac Dealership until 1969 when he sold the dealership. In 1965 he began building the Colonial Club near Nelson and after 25 years he retired and sold the supper club.
Erv is survived by his wife: Monica Baltes of Alexandria, sons Father Tim Baltes of St. Cloud, Minn.; Gary and Linda Baltes of Alexandria, daughter Mary Jo and Jake West of Chandler, Ariz., three grandchildren; Carly Baltes of Topeka Kansas; Delaney West and Joseph West both of Chandler, Ariz.; brothers Walt and Bernice Baltes of Superior, Wis.; and Elmer and Carol Baltes of Baxter, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Marie Smith Baltes, brothers Ralph, Virgil, Luverne, and Daniel Baltes, sisters Lucille Baltes Moran and Alice Baltes Worms. Erv's nieces and nephews were casket bearers. Military honors were accorded by the V.F.W. Post 936.
