Christ A. Evens, 73, of Brookfield, Wis., died April 14, 2003 at the VA Nursing Unit in Milwaukee, Wis. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, April 16 at St. Luke's Catholic Church in Brookfield.
Christ A. Evens was born on May 2, 1929 in Elrosa, Minn., to Joseph and Anna (Hens) Evens. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War during which he was wounded and received a Purple Heart. On June 6, 1953, he was united in marriage to Irene Arend in Milwaukee, Wis. They resided in the Milwaukee area until his death. Christ was an employee of Weyerhaeuser Company until his retirement.
He is survived by six children: Joel R. (Joann) Evens of Slinger, Wis., Jeanne M. (Jeff) Baron of Rohnert Park, Calif., John B. "Jack" (Kristen) Evens of Wind Lake, Wisc., Daniel M. (Joyce) Evens of Milwaukee, Wis., Timothy J. (Linda) Evens of Sarasota, Fla., Peter J. (Janet) Evens of Milwaukee, Wis.; 15 loving grandchildren, Mary Jo, Joseph, Justin, Amanda, Steven, Nathan, Kimberly, Julie, and Brandon Evens, Merideth and Heather Baron, Daniel and Derek Busch, Catherine and Stephanie Holm; sisters and brothers, Henry Evens of Sauk Centre, Theresa Egeland of Sauk Centre, Marie Johnson of Banning, Calif., Cecelia Peter of Sun City West, Ariz., Elizabeth Boutwell of Dewitt, Mich., and Anthony Evens of Pewaukee, Wis.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Irene M. Evens; sister, Ann Veeder, and brothers, John, Frank, and Math Evens. Serving as casket bearers were his five sons and grandson Justin Evens. Crossbearer was his daughter Jeanne.
