Alvina M. Strom, age 89 of Swanville, passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2008, at Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose. Mass of Christian Burial for Alvina M. Strom was at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 29, at St. John The Baptist Catholic Church in Swanville with Father Ronald Dockendorf officiating. Burial was in St. John's parish cemetery in Swanville.
Alvina (Wielenberg) Strom was born Dec. 17, 1918, in Melrose Township, Stearns County, to Frank and Elizabeth (Gramke) Wielenberg. She came to Swanville and worked for the local dentist, Dr. Stoering, as a nanny. She met Harold Strom when he returned from WWII. They were married in Melrose at St. Boniface Catholic Church on Sept. 17, 1946, and they resided in Swanville all of their lives until she entered Pine Haven in Melrose in 2004. Alvina enjoyed her gardening, taking care of her grandchildren, quilting, crocheting, stitching, making her famous turtle soup and garlic dill pickles and brewing grape wine. Everyone of her grandchildren had their own favorites which she enjoyed cooking. Alvina will be sadly missed by everyone who knew her.
Survivors include her sons, Martin (Janet) Strom of Holdingford, Frank (Debbie) Strom of Bertha, Loren Strom of Randall, Maurice (Rose) Strom of Elk River, Paul (Linda) Strom of Upsala, Moe (Beth) Strom of Little Falls; her daughters; Leah (Allen) Ahrens of Sauk Centre, Mary Fisher and significant other, Eugene Kuchinski of Pierz, Lisa (Wayne) Fox of St. Anna, Evelyn (Donald) Repp of Swanville; 33 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; sisters Bertha Feuchtmann of Long Prairie and Marie Bosl of Sauk Centre.
Preceded in death by her parents; husband Harold in 1988, granddaughters Jackie Strom and Penny Strom; grandson Benjamin Fisher; brothers, Henry, Edwin and Joseph Wielenberg; sisters; Anna Kemper, Agnes Kemper and Magdalen Soenneker. Pallbearers were her grandsons, Rob Strom, Shane Strom, Josh Strom, Michael Strom, Brian Ahrens, Joey Dropps, Nathan Strom and Eric Repp. Arrangements were with Shelley-Gibson Funeral Chapel in Swanville.
