Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church for Edward H. Atkinson Sr., 66, who died Wednesday at Minneapolis VA Medical Center.Interment will be in the parish cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post 482 of Albany.Friends may call after 3:30 p.m. today and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church in Freeport. Freeport Senior Citizens will pray at 4 p.m. today at the church, followed by parish prayers at 8 and St. Joseph's Society at 8:30.Arrangements were made by Patton-Schad Funeral Service of Freeport.
Edward Atkinson Sr. was born in Freeport to Edward and Magdalena (Finken) Atkinson. He was in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict and was stationed in Germany. He married Delphine Mader on Oct. 20, 1956, in St. Francis Catholic Church, St. Francis. He began farming in 1956 near New Munich. Since 1958 he had farmed near Freeport in Millwood Township. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, St. Joseph's Society, Catholic Order of Foresters, Freeport Senior Citizens and American Legion Post 482 of Albany.
Survivors include his sons, Ed T. of Freeport, Tom of Albany, Trent of Mora, and Dean of St. Cloud; 10 grandchildren; and brother and sister, Gerald of Freeport, and Patricia Kaufman of Spencer, S.D.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Oct. 25, 1995; daughter and sons, Sheila Madeson, Bradley and Todd; and brothers, Arnie, Archie, Art and Virgil.
