Celestina "Les" Margaret Denne, 83, Bismarck, N.D., died Dec. 2, 2004, at her home. Funeral services were held on Monday, Dec. 6, at Church of St. Mary in Bismarck with the Rev. Bruce Krebs officiating. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Celestina "Les" was born on Aug. 28, 1921, in Richmond, Minn., the daughter of John P. and Frances Katherine (Kron) Schreifels. She was raised and educated in Richmond. When she was 13 years old, Les moved in with her grandma and helped with home chores and farming duties. She worked for Litchfield Produce, Hotel Melrose, and a dry cleaning establishment in Melrose. In Enderlin, N. D., she also worked for a dry cleaning establishment. On June 25, 1947, Les married Jerome "Jerry" J. Denne in Melrose. They moved to Bismarck in 1956 and Les worked for Poor Roger's Service. Jerry died in Bismarck on January 25, 1994. Les was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She enjoyed bowling, fishing, watching Twins and Rockies baseball games, and many more activities. Les was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by her family and many good friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol Denne of Denver, Colo.; her grandson, Brian Borgen of Fargo, N. D.; five sisters and two brothers-in-law, Ellen Primus of Hawley, Esther Steinemann of Freeport, Delphine Gieske, Alice and Jack Moening, and Iris Hiltner, all of Melrose; one brother and four sisters-in-law, Cyril and Valeria Schreifels of Melrose, Pat Schreifels of Coon Rapids, Lorraine Schreifels of Melrose, and Frannie Schreifels of Melrose; her son-in-law, Jim Borgen and his wife, Judy, of Devils Lake, N. D.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jerry; her daughter, Julie Ann Denne-Borgen (on May 30, 1981); three brothers, Victor, Howard, and Marcellus Schreifels; one sister, Julia Schreifels; and three brothers-in-law, Robert Gieske, Jerry Hiltner, and Bill Primus.
