Steven G. Petermeier died Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2005, at the Pine Villa Nursing Home in Melrose. Mass of Christian burial was on Friday, Oct. 28, 11:30 a.m. at St. Marys Catholic Church in Melrose with Father Vincent Lieser officiating. Burial was in St. Marys Cemetery in Melrose.
Steven was born on Aug. 19, 1928, in Melrose, the son of Henry and Elizabeth (Zirbes) Petermeier. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Melrose. As a young child Steven was stricken with polio was left handicapped in his right arm but never let this limit him in any way. He attended country school district #164 and graduated from Melrose High School in 1946. Steven loved to farm and spent his entire life on the Petermeier farm homestead where several of his nephews helped during their summer vacations and have many fond memories of farming with Uncle Steven. He enjoyed playing cards and visiting with family and friends.
He is survived by six sisters; Eunice Casey, Colton, CA, Carmella and Ed Worms, New Munich, Loyola Jenkins, Ventura, CA, Jeanette Barth, Melrose, JoAnn and John Welle, Paynesville, Betty LaFiniere, Crystal; four brothers, Delbert and Dolores, Melrose, Bill, Elk River, Tony, Bloomington and Tom and Pat of Alexandria; many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Marie and Lucille; three brothers, Joe, Richard and George. Honorary pallbearers were Joe Soenecker, Ed Mueller, Larry Wiechman, Ed McCarty, Jim Petermeier, Jack Petermeier, Frank Hartung, Art Westendorf, Eymard Orth, Tony Niehaus and Victor Pogatchnik Jr. Pallbearers were Kenny Meyer, Kevin Petermeier, Chris Welle, Jay Petermeier, Chris Barth and Ron Barten. Services were directed by Petermeiers Alexandria Funeral Care & Cremation Service.
