Marie Meyer, 85 of Melrose died Friday, Sept. 5, 2003, at the Good Shepherd Community in Sauk Rapids. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose with Rev. Vincent Lieser officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 8 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Women's Catholic Order of Foresters will pray at 4:30 pm followed by parish prayers at 7 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
Marie Meyer was born on March 26, 1918, in Melrose, Minn., to Henry H. and Elizabeth H. (Zirbes) Petermeier. She was united in marriage to Walter F. Meyer on June 29, 1942, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Melrose. The couple resided in Melrose all their lives. Marie was employed at Wymann Manufacturing in Sauk Centre for 15 years. She was a resident of Good Shepherd Community in Sauk Rapids for the last 2 years. Marie enjoyed card playing, sewing, needle work, gardening and going for walks. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose and the Women's Catholic Order of Foresters.
She is survived by her children, Kenneth Meyer (Joan) of Circle Pines, David Meyer (Kathy) of Somerset, WI, Patrick Meyer (Josi) of St. Paul, Joyce Strandquist (Harold) of North Oaks, Janel Thul (Ken) of St. Cloud, Rich Meyer of St. Cloud, Ruth Hiltner (Chuck) of Baxter, and Bob Meyer (Mary) of Detroit Lakes; daughter-in-law, Linda Meyer of St. Louis Park; 24 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Eunice Casey of Colton, CA, Carmella Worms (Ed) of New Munich, Joe Petermeier (Pat) of Melrose, Loyala Jenkins (Fred) of Ventura, CA, Delbert Petermeier (Delores) of Melrose, Stephen Petermeier of Melrose, Bill Petermeier of Watertown, Janette Barth of Melrose, Joann Welle (John) of Paynesville, Tony Petermeier of Bloomington, Betty LaFriniere of Crystal, and Tom Petermeier (Pat) of Alexandria.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Elizabeth Petermeier; husband, Walter F. Meyer on Sept. 6, 1978; son, Mike Meyer on Aug. 6, 1997; brothers, George and Richard Petermeier; and sister, Lucille Petermeier. Serving as casket bearers will be Mark Meyer, Pat Meyer, Mike Strandquist, Aaron Thul, Chris Hiltner, Zach Meyer, and Craig Meyer. Cross bearer will be Elizabeth Meyer. Arrangements were made with Patton-Schad Funeral & Cremation Services of Melrose.
