Norbert J. Welle, 73, Park Rapids, MN, formerly of Moorhead, MN, died Thursday, Sept. 6 at Heritage Living Center in Park Rapids. Mass Of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, Sept. 11 at St. Peter The Apostle Catholic Church in Park Rapids, Father Dennis Wieland, officiating. Friends may call 7:00 9:00 PM Monday and one hour prior to the mass on Tuesday at St. Peter The Apostle Catholic Church in Park Rapids.
Norbert John Welle was born June 8, 1934 in Spring Hill, Minnesota to Norbert and Evelyn (Buttwieler) Welle. As a child he moved with his family to Avon, MN where he was raised and educated. Following his graduation from Avon High School, he worked for the Great Northern Railroad in St. Cloud, MN. He served with the U. S. Navy 1954 1957. Following his discharge, he returned to St. Cloud and resumed working for the railroad. Norbert was united in marriage with Colleen Marcotte in New Rockford, ND in 1954. They lived in a number of communities, coming to Moorhead, MN in 1968. During this time, they were special in the lives of Tom, Cindy, Shawn, Jodee and Rob Marcott following the death of their parents. Norb retired from the railroad in 1993. They moved to Park Rapids in 1994 and spent their summers in Park Rapids and winters in Arizona.
Norb enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting, tinkering in his garage, watching hockey and the Green Bay Packers.
Survivors include his wife, Colleen of Park Rapids; children, Rick Welle of Superior, WI, Nancy (Tom) Cossett of Moorhead, MN, Lori (Brian) Wenner of Moorhead, Kellie Jo (Jim) Osowski of Detroit Lakes, MN, Randy (Beth) Welle of Moorhead; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Schlagheck of Sartel, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Richard and a sister, Roselyn. Arrangements have been entrusted to the David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, MN
