Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, March 22, 2005 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Cathedral Lower Church in St. Cloud for Ed Gruenke age 99 of St. Cloud who died Friday, March 18, 2005 at St. Benedict's Senior Community in St. Cloud. Reverend Steven Binsfeld will officiate. Entombment will be in the Assumption Cemetery Mausoleum in St. Cloud. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday and after 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the Daniel Funeral Home, St. Cloud. Knights of Columbus Council #961 will pray at 6:30 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 7:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home in St. Cloud.
Ed was born on November 8, 1905 in Dent, Minnesota to Benjamin and Bertha (Albright) Gruenke. He married Stella Roering on April 24, 1933 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Munich, Minnesota. Ed retired at age 90 after 71 years as a Master Barber. He enjoyed performing as a clown and magician, playing the violin, practicing taxidermy and was accomplished at tying fishing flies. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council #961 and St. Mary's Cathedral Parish where he served as head usher for over 40 years.
Survivors include his wife Stella of St. Cloud, son, Bernard and his wife Mary of Burnsville; daughter, Jean Bauerly and her husband Jack of Maple Grove; nine grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Phyllis Reinhardt; brothers, Ambrose, and Alois; sisters, Regina Vogel, Louise Garding, and Louella Kidwell. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
