Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Watkins for Geraldine Hommerding, 81, of Watkins who died Saturday at Hilltop Good Samaritan Center in Watkins. Interment will be in St. Nicholas Catholic Cemetery in St. Nicholas. Casket bearers and lectors will be grandchildren. Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday and from 8:00 a.m. to time of service on Wednesday at the Ertl Funeral Home in Watkins. Senior Citizens will pray the rosary at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home followed by parish prayers at 7:00 p.m.
Geraldine Hommerding was born in Watkins to Math and Pauline (Geis) Hennen on February 10, 1920. She married Ernest Hommerding on October 2, 1937 in Watkins. They resided on a farm near Cold Spring before moving to St. Nicholas where they farmed until their retirement in 1970. Following their retirement, they moved to a home in Watkins. Ernest died in 1985, and Geraldine moved to the Watkins Area Homes and the St. Anthony Manor prior to becoming a resident at the Hilltop Good Samaritan Center in October of 2001.
Geraldine was employed at Animal Fair in Eden Valley for several years. She enjoyed baking, craft work, puzzles, painting, and going on one day bus trips with her friends. She was a loving mother and enjoyed being with her family, grandchildren and great grand-children. Her health deteriorated quickly this past month and her prayers were answered, to be with her loved ones above. She died peacefully in her sleep among family at the Hilltop Good Samaritan Center on January 5, 2002.
Survivors include her children and their spouses, Carol and Art Lahr of Eden Valley, Deroy and Jan Hommerding of Brooklyn Park, Daniel and Connie Hommerding of St. Cloud; grandchildren and their spouses, Bruce and Jane Lahr of St. Cloud, Brian Lahr of Watkins, Bradley and Christine Lahr of Rochester, Beth Linquist of Litchfield, Barb and Dan Gettel of Coon Rapids, Brent and Vicki Lahr of Eden Valley, Jenny Hommerding, Chad Schaefer, Joey and Scott Hommerding, all of St. Cloud; 10 great grandchildren; sister, Lillian Garding of Kimball; brothers and their spouses, Alvin and Delores Hennen of St. Cloud, LaVern (Vernie) and Eileen Hennen of Watkins; brother and sisters in law, Alquin Hommerding, Betty Weber, Marie Rossman and Alma Krueger, all of Cold Spring.
She was preceded in death by her husband; sisters, Caroline Dockendorf, Theresa Loesch, Lorraine Lutgen; brothers, Albert, Cyrill, Benedict, Herbert, Elmer and Irwin Hennen.
