Services will be 11:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church for Jerry Hiltner, 62, who died Friday at Melrose Area Hospital. Burial will be private. Friends may call from 3:30 to 9 p.m. Sunday and from 8 to 11 a.m. Monday at Patton-Schad Funeral Home, Melrose. Parish prayers will be at 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Jerry Hiltner was born in Melrose to Norbert and Agnes (Herzog) Hiltner. He married Iris Schreifels on May 12, 1962, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Melrose. They resided in Minneapolis for several years and returned to Melrose in 1965. He worked at Earl's Bar in Melrose for two years and for Stearns Electric for 33 years before retiring in 2000. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and was past president of Steelworkers Union Local 8392.
Survivors include his wife; mother of Melrose; children, Jill Shepherd of Bloomington, Bruce of Ramsey, and Kristie Dickson of Plymouth; sisters and brothers, Lu Rieland, Jen Toenies, Mary Decker and Tom of Melrose, Ruben of Alexandria, Gene and Jim of Limon, Colo., Chuck of Baxter, Ann Thielen of New Munich, Mike of Cold Spring, and Bridget Westbrock of Rochester; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by an infant sister.
