Funeral services will be 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 22, 2001, at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Roscoe for Lillian M. Schmitz, age 80, of Roscoe, who died Saturday, August 18, 2001, at the Assumption Home in Cold Spring after a year battle with lymphoma. Father Leo Leisen and Deacon Vernon Schmitz will officiate. Burial will take place in the St. Agnes Parish Cemetery in Roscoe. Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. on Tuesday and after 9 a.m. on Wednesday at the Daniel-Anderson Funeral Home in Paynesville. The Daughters of Isabella, St. Agnes Christian Women and St. Agnes Mission Group will lead a rosary at 7 p.m. followed by Parish Prayers at 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Arrangements were made by the Daniel-Anderson Funeral Home in Paynesville.
Lillian was born July 22, 1921, in rural Lake Henry, MN, to Bernard and Mary (Loecken) Heinen. She married Christ Schmitz on April 18, 1944, at St. Margaret's Catholic Church in Lake Henry. They farmed in the Roscoe area where she enjoyed quilting, sewing, gardening, cooking, baking, caring for all the animals and taking care of her children and grandchildren. In 1983 they retired and built a home on a few acres of their farmland. She continued to donate her time and quilting talents to her church, community and family. She was a member of the St. Agnes Catholic Church, St. Agnes Christian Women and Mission Group and the Daughters of Isabella.
Surviving Lillian are her children, Vernon (Diane) Schmitz - St. Cloud, Larry (Jeanne) Schmitz - Eden Valley, Mary Rutsis - Duluth, Alan (LaVeda) Schmitz - Alexandria, David (Debra) Schmitz - Cold Spring, Ione (Gary) DeNucci - Luck, WI, Annette Schmitz - Waite Park, Renae (Shawn) McGinnity - Luck, WI, Myron (Joan) Schmitz - North Branch and Marc (Amy) Schmitz - Pierre, SD; 25 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; brother, Innocent (Florence) Heinen - Watkins; and sisters, Viola (Leo) Olmscheid - New Munich and Lorraine (Jerome) Olmscheid - Lake Henry.
Preceding her in death were her husband (1994) and daughters, Martha (1964) and Karen (1967).
Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
