Services will be at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church for Lee Schulzetenberg, who died Sunday at the Melrose Area Hospital. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 8 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Melrose Veterans Honor Guard will pray at 7 p.m. followed by the Queen of Peace Assembly of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus standing in honor from 7 to 9 p.m. and parish prayers at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home in Melrose.
Lee Schulzetenberg was born March 12, 1924 in Spring Hill Township, Stearns County, to Gerhard and Clara (Schwegman) Schulzetenb-erg. He was drafted to serve with the United States Army during WWII. During his tour in Okinawa, he was the recipient of the Purple Heart. He married Betty Uphus on June 26, 1947 at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Greenwald. The couple farmed near Greenwald for 42 years until retiring and moving to Melrose in 1989. Lee served on the Spring Hill Township Board and the St. John's/St. Andrew's School Board. Upon retiring from farming, he was employed with Rural Community Insurance Service as a Crop Insurance Adjuster. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing cards and spending time with his family. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Melrose, the Melrose VFW and American Legion and a member of the Queen of Peace Assembly of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. He was a past commander of the Lake Henry American Legion, past Grand Knight of the Melrose Knights of Columbus and a former Faithful Navigator of the Queen of Peace Assembly of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his children, Pat Seanger (Tom) and Sheri Rademacher (Dennis) of Melrose, Bob Schulzeten-berg (Sandi) of St. Cloud, Kathy Haider (Gary) of Elrosa, Rick Schulzetenberg (Kim) of Maple Grove, Kevin Schulzetenberg (Jane) of St. Joseph and Kim Zupan (Bruce) of Prior Lake; 20 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; brothers, Albin Schulzetenberg (Del) of Arizona and Anthony Schulzetenberg (Mayme) of St. Cloud.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty, on May 14, 2000, and brothers Rev. Robert and Wilfred Schulzetenberg. Military rites are provided by the Melrose Veterans Honor Guard.
