Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church for Joseph A. Marthaler, 91, formerly of West Union, who died Thursday at Community Memorial Home. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Roy-Hetland Funeral Home, Osakis. Parish prayers will be at 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Joseph Marthaler was born in West Union Township, Todd County, to Anton and Anna (Ebensteiner) Marthaler. He married Merina Beste on June 23, 1937, at St. Alexius Catholic Church, West Union. They dairy farmed for more than 43 years in West Union Township, retiring and moving to Osakis in 1980. He entered the memorial home in 1998. He was a member of Immaculate Conception parish in Osakis and St. Joseph Society, and a former member of St. Alexius parish in West Union.
Survivors include his wife; children, Marilyn Olson, David, Arnold, Hilarius and Alcuin of Osakis, Arthur of Padua, Juliana Schmitz of Anoka, Wilfred of Lake Henry, Darlene Stevens of Melrose, and Ilene Wiener of Sauk Centre; 37 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by an infant son; one great-grandson; and brother and sisters, John, Rose Deters and Mary.
