Funeral services will be 10 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in St. Cloud for Leander H. Illies, age 84, formerly of 126 North 32nd Ave, St. Cloud who died on Tuesday, January 29, 2002, at St. Benedict's Center. The Rev. Robert Harren will officiate. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery. Friends may call between 4-8 p.m. on Thursday and after 9 a.m. on Friday at the Daniel Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN. Waite Park American Legion Post 428 will pray at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home in St. Cloud followed by St. Anthony's parish prayers at 7.
Leander was born on May 13, 1917, in Elrosa, MN to Clements and Anna (Schneider) Illies. He married Caroline Stein on March 1, 1938, in St. Mary's Cathedral. He served in the US Army during WW II. He was employed by Franklin Manufacturing for 31 years in the maintenance department. He retired in 1979. After his retirement he spent 18 years working with his son at Lenny's Crossroads Auto. He was a member of St. Anthony's parish and Waite Park American Legion Post 428.
Survivors include his wife Caroline; children David (Mary Ann) of St. Cloud, Jeanette Reiter (Ralph) of Anoka, Vernie Schroer (Tom) of Sauk Rapids, Dona Prom of Sauk Rapids, and Lenny (Mary Kay) of St. Cloud; 16 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sister Erma Kemmetmuller of Monticello.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters: Sr. Adelle OSB, Sr Ephren OSB, Norbert, Sebastian, Ann, Ervin, Ralph, Richard, Clements, Agatha and Charles.
