Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Martin Catholic Church for Alois Klassen, 86, who died Tuesday at St. Cloud Hospital. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Thursday at Wenner Funeral Home, Richmond. St. Benedict Society and St. Joseph Men's Society will pray the rosary at 4:30 p.m. Thursday followed by parish prayers at 8 and Catholic Aid Society and Knights of Columbus rosary at 9 at the funeral home.
Alois Klassen was born in St. Martin to Mathias and Gertrude (Schaefer) Klassen. He married Marie Moschol on Oct. 14, 1940, in St. Martin Catholic Church. The couple farmed five miles northwest of St. Martin. He worked as the caretaker of the Middle Spunk Interstate Highway 94 rest area near Avon for 14 years. He was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church, St. Benedict Society, St. Joseph Men's Society, Catholic Aid and Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his wife; children, Veneel Mehr of Twin Falls, Idaho, Athleen Dingman of Freeport, Robert of St. Martin, Jean Haider of Belgrade, Larry of St. Cloud, Mary Fiedler of St. Martin and Tom of Maple Lake; brother and sister, Peter of St. Joseph, and Walburga 'Wally'Meyer of Freeport; 16 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda in 1957; one granddaughter; and brothers and sisters, Mathias, Nicholas, Norbert, Paul, Rose, Anna Pfau, Clara Brix, Hildegard Wieber and Scholastica Flint.
