Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 7, 2004 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Richmond, MN for Gertrude B. Mackedanz, age 101, who died Friday at the Assumption Home in Cold Spring. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Monday, and from 9 - 10:30 Tuesday morning at the Wenner Funeral Home in Richmond. Parish prayers will be at 4:00 p.m. The Golden Smiles and Roscoe Christian Women will pray a rosary at 4:30 p.m. Monday.
Gertie was born in Richmond to John and Mary (Korte) Hemmesch. She married Leo Mackedanz on April 20, 1926 in Sts. Peter & Paul Church, Richmond, MN. Gertie and Leo farmed 9 miles west of Richmond until retiring in 1979. She enjoyed playing cards, fishing, snowmobiling, and spending time with her family and friends. Gertie was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Parish, Honorary Member of Roscoe Christian Women and Richmond Golden Smiles Senior Citizen Group.
Survivors include her children, +Dan (Kathy) of Richmond, Ione (Melvin) Fuchs of St. Cloud, Irene (+Orlin) Albrecht of Roscoe, Dorothy (Leo) Leyendecker of Paynesville, Delores (+Art) Schwagel of St. Cloud, Janet (Art) Mehr of Granite Falls, Charles (Jeannie) of Paynesville, Ferdinand (Karen Poquette) of Albany and Joyce (Andrew) Holthaus of Cold Spring; 43 grandchildren; 97 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo; sons, Wilbert and Dan; brothers, Henry, Martin, Albert and Aloys; sisters, Marie, Christine, Emma, Monica, Veronica, Bertha and Rose and 4 great-grandchildren
