Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 24 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport for James Meyer, who died Thursday, Feb. 20 at his home. Rev. Roger Klassen, OSB will officiate. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery with military honors by the Melrose Veterans Honor Guard. Friends may call from 3:30 to 9 p.m. Sunday and 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Freeport. Freeport Fire Dept. will pray at 7 p.m. followed by parish prayers at 8 p.m. Sunday evening at the church in Freeport.

James Meyer was born on February 24, 1950 in Millwood Township, Stearns County, to Edwin and Viola (Middendorf) Meyer. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served during the Vietnam era. Harleys and fishing were two of his favorite things. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Survivors include two sons, Karl Meyer of St. Cloud and Benjamin Meyer of Freeport; mother, Viola Meyer of Freeport; grandmother, Loretta Gieske of Melrose; brothers and sisters, Janet Ostendorf (Werner), Donald Meyer and Glen "Gopher" Meyer (Betty), all of Freeport, LuAnn Thielen (Mark) of Browerville, Doris Hinnenkamp (Ralph) and Judy Schmiesing (Ed) of Melrose and Elaine Wicklund (Jeff) of Becker.

He was preceded in death by his father, Edwin on October 6, 2001; nephew, Shane Meyer on Dec. 13, 1997; grandparents, Henry Middendorf, Teresa and Theodore Meyer. Arrangements were made with Patton-Schad Funeral Service of Melrose.
