Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Greenwald, for Herbert Wenker, 76, who died Monday at his home. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Patton-Schad Funeral Home, Melrose. Lake Henry Legion Post 612 and St. Michael's Men's Society will pray at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home in Melrose followed by parish prayers at 8.
Herbert Wenker was born in Grove Township, Stearns County, to Bernard and Rose (Kortenbusch) Wenker. He was in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1947. He married Dorothy Arceneau on May 30, 1950, in St. Martin. The couple farmed near Greenwald. His wife died on Feb. 6, 1973. He married Rita Doubek-Dockendorf on Aug. 2, 1980, in Cold Spring. The couple continued to farm near Greenwald. He was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Lake Henry Legion 612, and St. Michael's Men's Society of Greenwald.
Survivors include his wife; sons and daughters Steve of Royalton, Sharon 'Sherry'Gaebel of Albany, Mark of Sauk Centre, Mary of St. Cloud, Barb Kennedy of Sartell, Jim of East Bethel, Theresia Berglund of St. Paul, and Kathy and Joseph, at home; stepchildren, Rich Dockendorf of Champlin, Alvin Dockendorf at home, Kevin Dockendorf of St. Joseph, Daren Gavin of Cold Spring, Connie Hansen of Brooklyn Park, and John Dockendorf of Freeport; brothers and sisters, Edmund of Melrose, Raymond of Villard, Clarence of Melrose, Sylvia Schulzetenberg of New Munich, Marie Schneider of St. Joseph, Edna Worms of Melrose, Adeline Schaefer of Burnsville, Florentine Hammer of Lake Henry, and Larry of Bloomington; and 26 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son Bernard; and brother Adolf.
