Edmund H. "Eddie" Wenker, age 80 of Greenwald died peacefully Monday, July 25, 2005, surrounded by his family at Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose. Mass of Christian Burial was held July 29 at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Greenwald with Rev. Ken Thielman and Rev. Dan Ohmann concelebrating. Interment was in the parish cemetery.
Edmund Wenker was born Jan. 10, 1925, in Grove Township, Stearns County, Minn., to Bernard and Rose (Kortenbusch) Wenker. He was united in marriage to Mathilda Burg on June 9, 1948, in St. Martin. The couple resided in Greenwald. Eddie owned and operated the Melrose Implement for 33 years before retiring in 1987. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Greenwald and St. Michael's Men's Society.
Survivors include his wife, Mathilda "Tillie" Wenker of Meire Grove; children, Ruth (Duane) Massmann of Farming, Robert (Connie) Wenker of Hewitt, David (Linda) Wenker of Melrose, Ann (Ralph) Mehr of St. Martin, Alan (Brenda) Wenker of Greenwald, Carol Wenker of Champlin, Laurie (Allan) Aaberg of Starbuck, Lois (Joe) Wander of Oak Grove and Tom (Shelly) Wenker of Melrose; 22 grandchildren and one great grandchild; brothers and sisters, Raymond (Lorraine) of Villard, Clarence (Mary Ann) Wenker of Melrose, Larry (Radie) Wenker of Young America, Sylvia Schulzetenberg of New Munich, Edna (Melvin) Worms of Melrose, Marie (Eddie) Schneider of St. Joseph, Adeline (Stan) Schaefer of Burnsville and Florentine (Kenny) Hammer of Lake Henry.
Edmund was preceded in death by his parents; children, John Wenker, Jane Kastel and one infant son; and brothers, Herbert and Adolph Wenker.
Serving as casket bearers were Eric Massmann, Adam Massmann, Charles Kastel, Zachary Aaberg, Matt Mehr and Grant Wenker. Serving as cross bearer was Nicholas Wander and scripture bearer was Alyssa Heinen. Honorary bearers were Ray Barten, Tony Ellering, Jackie Ohmann, Jim Nathe, Elmer Gerding, Bennie Nietfeld, Kenny Kulzer, Tony Kulzer, Herb Schwieters, Tony Schwieters, Leo Eveslage, Roger Wenker, Peter Doll, Art Doll and Al Luetmer. Soloist was Connie Wenker. The lector was Kayla Wenker. The petitions were read by Melissa Wenker and the eulogy by Carol Wenker.
