Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 26, 2010 at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Greenwald for Herbert Schwieters who died Saturday, Feb. 20 at the Pine Villa Care Center in Melrose. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 8 to 10 a.m. Friday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Parish prayers will be held at 7 p.m. followed by the Knights of Columbus and the St. Michael's Men's Society at 8 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
Herbert Casper Schwieters was born May 31, 1926 to Leo and Caroline (Nathe) Schwieters in Greenwald, Minnesota. He was united in marriage to Aurelia Stalboerger on May 26, 1948 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Melrose. Herb was a dairy farmer and also sold seed, feed, and oil to local farmers. He enjoyed playing cards, recycling steel, bowling, "looking for deer", and storytelling. Herb loved spending time with family and friends, and especially loved watching his grandkids play sports.
Survivors include his wife, Aurelia (Stalboerger) Schwieters of Greenwald; children, Tom (Barb) Schwieters of Melrose, Richard (Shari) Schwieters of Brooklyn Center, Bob (Kathy) Schwieters of Glenwood, Dennis (Lorine) Schwieters of Prior Lake, Joel (Cindi) Schwieters of Stillwater, John (Lynnea) Schwieters of Dellwood, Leo (Robin) Schwieters of Rogers, Mary (Kevin) Athmann of Hopkins, Caroline (Dan) Wander of Dayton, and Gloria (Randy) Welle of Melrose; 26 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; brother and sisters, Marcella Uphoff of Monticello, Anthony (Anna Marie) Schwieters of Melrose, Charlene (John) Ohmann of Greenwald, Jeanette (Alvin) Barten of Marshalltown, Iowa, and Joan (Jerry) Ehresmann of St. Cloud.
Herb was preceded in death by his two sons, Harvey and Phillip Schwieters; granddaughter, Jackie Lynn Schwieters; sisters, Delores Wehlage, Loretta Meyer, and infant sister, Rose Schwieters.
