Services will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church for James A. Koopmeiners, 58, who died Saturday at his home.Burial will be in the parish cemetery.Friends may call after 3:30 p.m. today and from 8 until 11 a.m. Tuesday at Patton-Schad Funeral Home, Melrose. Knights of Columbus and the Melrose Fire Department will pray at 7 followed by parish prayers at 8 tonight at the funeral home in Melrose.
James Koopmeiners was born in Swanville to Herman and Florence (Pohlmann) Koopmeiners. He married Catherine Tiemann on Sept. 5, 1964, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Melrose. He was employed by Kraft Foods for eight years, then the Melrose Water Treatment Plant for the past 27 years. He was active with the Melrose Fire Department for 22 years, and was a fire chief for four of those years. He was a member of Melrose Fire Department, Knights of Columbus and St. Mary's Catholic Church, where he was an usher.
Survivors include his wife; children, Kevin of Burnsville, Jeff of Albany, Eric of St. Cloud and Wendy of Denver; mother of Melrose; sisters and brothers, Mary Jane Austing of West St. Paul, Margie Roering of Upsala, Florentine Roering of Maplewood, JoAnn Zenzen of Sauk Centre, Irene Pohlmann, Carol Klaphake, and Gerald of Melrose and Bert of Waite Park; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his sister and brother, Joyce and Elmer.Memorials are preferred to Hospice and St. Mary's Catholic Church, Melrose.
