The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 27, at Saint Benedict's Monastery Chapel for Sister Mary Jude Meyer, 89, who died January 23 at Saint Scholastica Convent. Burial will be in the monastery cemetery. Friends may call at Saint Scholastica Convent on Wednesday, January 26, from 1:00 - 6:00 p.m., or for a Vigil Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Saint Benedict's Monastery, and on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral.
Sister Mary Jude was born in Freeport to Ferdinand and Catherine (Kerfeld) Meyer on August 27, 1915. She entered Saint Benedict's Monastery on June 20, 1934, and made her final profession on July 11, 1938. Sister Mary Jude earned her R.N. degree from the St. Cloud School of Nursing, her B.S. in Nursing and her M.S. degree in Medical Nursing from St. Louis University, St. Louis, Missouri. She also took certification classes at the University of Minnesota, the University of California, and from Marillac College in St. Louis, Missouri. Sister Mary Jude did nursing at the St. Cloud Hospital, was a staff nurse at St. Louis University, was medical supervisor and instruction of medical surgical nursing at St. Benedict's Hospital, Ogden, Utah, was an instructor of nursing at the St. Cloud Hospital, administrator of Queen of Peace Hospital, New Prague, Minn. and Director of the St. Cloud School of Nursing during her years of ministry. During her retirement she volunteered her services at the St. Cloud School of Nursing and was active in the Nursing Alumnae Association.
Sister Mary Jude is survived by her Benedictine community, two sisters (Ms. Marie Moscho of St. Martin and Ms. Bernadette Lauer of Waverly), nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers (Joseph and Aloys) and three sisters (Mrs. Loretta Kollmann, Ms. Evelyn Rademacher and Ms. Margaret Lauer).
