The mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of Herbert John Backes, age 87 of Farming, will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 17, 2006 at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Farming. Herbert died Wednesday at Mother of Mercy Nursing Home in Albany. Burial will be in Parish Cemetery, Farming. There will be a visitation from 9-11AM. Saturday, June 17, 2006 at the St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Farming. Arrangements by the Miller-Carlin-Brenny Funeral Home, Albany.
Herbert was born September 4, 1918 in Farming to Joseph and Benedicta (Willembring) Backes. He grew up on the family farm and he married Ann Olmscheid on June 18, 1955 at St. Mary's Cathedral in St. Cloud. Herbert farmed and was a lifetime resident of Farming. He was a member of St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Farming.
Herbert is survived by his wife Ann of 50 years, four sons: Wayne Backes, Willie Backes, Gary (Lisa) Backes all of Plymouth, and Gene Backes of Corcoran; 5 grandchildren; two sisters: Rita Bauer of El Rosa, and Isabell Scheffers of Ramey.
Herbert was preceded in death by his parents. Daughter Ramona age 9, and infant son, both in June of 1966. Six brothers: Ray, Leander, Clarence, Art, Harold and Alvin, four sisters: Louis Sneider, Bertha Mehr, Verena Brix and Susi Peters.
