A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of Albin H. Backes, 89 of Avon, will be 10 AM, Friday, August 12, 2005 at St. Benedict's Catholic Church, Avon. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Albin died unexpectedly Monday at the Albany Area Hospital. Friends may call from 4-9 PM Thursday & after 9 AM Friday at the church. Parish prayers will be 5:30 PM Thursday at the church. Arrangements are being made by Miller-Carlin-Brenny Funeral Home, Albany.
Albin was born in Farming to Joseph & Benedicta (Willenbring) Backes. He married Hildegard Janssen on October 6, 1941 in St. Catherine's Catholic Church, Farming. Together they farmed in Farming & worked at Farming Elementary for 15 years. In 1985 they retired & moved to Avon. Albin also loved hunting, fishing, & woodworking. He was a member of St. Benedict's Catholic Church.
Albin is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Hilde, Avon; children, Lola (Steve) Blattner, Avon; Rick (Marlys), Avon; Joe (Laura), Spicer; Tim (Donna), St. Cloud; Tom (Mary), St. Joseph; Sandy (Jack) Mergen, Avon; Randy (Janet), Avon; Ronnie (Cindy), Avon, 22 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, siblings, Susie Peters, Little Falls; Harold, Farming; Herbie (Ann), Farming; Rita Bauer, Elrosa; Isabel (Herb) Schefers, Pierz.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Diane Loch in 1999; twin grandchildren, Ronnie, Jr. & Lisa Backes in 1983; grandchild, William Backes in 1983 & siblings, Raymond, Louise Snyder, Lee , Bertha Mehr, Verina Brix, Clarence & Archie.
