Nov 21, 1999 Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church for Walter J. Wiechmann, 81, who died Sunday at St. Michael's Hospital.Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Sauk Centre. Friends may call from 3:30 to 9 p.m. today and from 8 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at Patton-Schad Funeral Home, Sauk Centre. Sauk Centre Seniors will pray at 4 p.m. followed by Veterans prayer service at 7, parish prayers at 7:30 and Knights of Columbus and Catholic Aid at 8 tonight at the funeral home in Sauk Centre.
Walter Wiechmann was born in Millwood Township to Bernard and Anna (Herkenhoff) Wiechmann. He was raised on a farm near St. Rosa. He served in the Pacific Theater for the U.S. Navy during World War II. He attended Dunwoody Institute, Minneapolis. He married Helen Mareck on Oct. 14, 1947, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Elrosa. The couple moved to Sauk Centre in 1947. He was employed as a mechanic and service and parts manager at John Wiese Ford, until retiring in 1981. He was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church, Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Aid Association, Sauk Centre Seniors, Bishop Busch Council 4863 Knights of Columbus, Paul F. Donart VFW Post 2853 and Centre Squares Square Dance Club.
Survivors include his wife; children, Carol Schneider of Bemidji, Lois Frericks of Melrose, Donna Swirczynski of Boise, Idaho, Sheila Ellingboe of Willmar, Janel Kuhn of Russiaville, Ind., and David of Winona; 10 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; sisters and brothers, Elisabeth Mohr of St. Francis, Catherine Klassen of Melrose, Marie Koll of Chaska, Alphonse of Belgrade, Wilfred of Elrosa and Alois of St. Rosa.He was preceded in death by his brothers, Frank and Anton.
