Feb 22, 2000 Services will be 11:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church for Raymond M. Althaus, 81, who died Tuesday at Melrose Area Hospital. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call from 3:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 8 to 11 a.m. Friday at Patton-Schad Funeral Home, Melrose. Parish prayers will be at 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home in Melrose.
Raymond Althaus was born in Melrose to Henry and Mary (Zitur) Althaus. He was a lifelong resident of Melrose. He married Celina Braegelmann on April 30, 1946, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Melrose. The couple farmed for many years and he worked for Meyer Brothers Lumber from 1948 to 1966. He then worked as a supervisor for the Melrose Street Department until retiring in 1983. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Melrose.
Survivors include his wife; sons and daughter, Dave and Ron of Melrose, and Mary Kaye Garvey of White Bear Lake; sisters, Frances Moening and Thresa Nathe of Melrose; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Ken; and sister, Kate Gieske.
