Norman J. "Dicky" Wieling, age 66 of New Munich, died unexpectedly on Saturday, July 26, 2008, at the Melrose Area Hospital.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 30, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Munich with Rev. Roger Klassen, O.S.B. officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later date in the parish cemetery.
Norman Wieling was born July 30, 1941, in Melrose to Hugo and Rose (Holdvogt) Wieling. On Oct. 13, 1979, he married Ruth Arnzen in St. Rosa. The couple farmed in the New Munich area and retired in 2007. Norman "Dicky" enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins and the Vikings. In his earlier years, he enjoyed playing softball in Freeport. Norman's true enjoyment was spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Munich.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Wieling of New Munich, daughters, Cindy (Matt) Heinen of New Munich and Nicky Wieling of New Munich (special friend, Matthew Depute of Melrose); grandchildren, Rose, Abby and Hannah Heinen; brothers and sister, Roger Wieling of Long Prairie, Delbert (Marian) Wieling of Melrose, Donald (Bernie) Wieling of Melrose and Joyce (Ted) Westendorf of Melrose.
Norman was preceded in death by his parents, Hugo and Rose Wieling; grandson, Nathanial Heinen; sister-in-law, Judy Wieling; nephew, Todd Wieling; and niece, Jolene Wieling. Serving as casket bearers were Tom Wieling, Dave Wieling, Jamie Wieling, Al Wieling, Ron Wieling and Jeff Westendorf. Cross bearer was Abby Heinen and scripture bearer was Rose Heinen. Mass servers were John and Matt Holdvogt. Gift bearers were Anna Arnzen, Sheila Doll and Pat Wieling. Eucharistic Ministers were Denis Schneider, Mitch Depute and Ray Schneider. Reader was Paula Peltz. Arrangements were made with Patton-Schad Funeral & Cremation Services of Melrose.
