Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church for Hugo Wieling, 85, who died Monday at Pine Haven Care Center. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call from 3:30 to 9 tonight and from 8 to 10 a.m. Thursday at Patton-Schad Funeral Home, Melrose. St. Joseph's Society of New Munich will pray at 7:30 tonight at the funeral home in Melrose followed by parish prayers at 8.
Hugo Wieling was born in Ivanhoe to Herman and Wilhelmina (Voellimecke) Wieling. He married Rose Holdvogt on Sept. 21, 1937, in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, New Munich. The couple farmed near New Munich until retiring to Melrose in 1979. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Melrose, and St. Joseph's Society of New Munich.
Survivors include sons and daughter, Roger of Grey Eagle, Norman of New Munich, and Joyce Westendorf, Del and Donald of Melrose; 20 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife on March 9, 1992; one grandson; and sisters, Matilda 'Tillie'Schneider, Ida Braun and Bertha Uphus.
